Peace of mind with Fur Mum Pet Care

If you consider your pet to be a member of the family, like the majority of Australians, you want to be careful about choosing who takes care of your pet when you can’t. You want someone who will love your pet like you do, notice if they are feeling a bit off, and take care of them like a member of their own family. That is the peace of mind on offer with Fur Mum Pet Care.

THE FUR MUM STORY

I started Fur-Mum Pet Care in 2015 after years of rotating my fur-babies among my friends and family while I worked a Fly-in/Fly-out job. I hated imposing on my social circle, but could not imaging placing my tiny, nervous chihuahua-mix in a boarding kennel. I set out to build the business I would trust with my own pets.

I had been fostering dogs for years and was accustomed to having random animals around the house, so I shifted careers and opened my doors to more pets in need. Over the years I have put everything possible into making this the best place for pets that I can, and I hope to continue with even more big improvements in the next few years.

In 2020, I upgraded my facilities for safety and peace of mind and moved to a convenient Townsville location at 80 Mather Street. This was a great space, where I could combine a big air-conditioned play space with all the comforts of home.

After a few years of living in a doggy daycare/ boarding facility I decided I needed a little separation for my sanity, and purchased 8 acres out at Bluewater. I spent a year making the house and yard safe and fun for the dogs, and finally moved in at the end of 2023. Now we provide the convenience of pick-up/drop-off for boarding in town at Mather St, but spend the majority of our time on the acreage. I will spend the next few years upgrading the Bluewater property even more, until it is the perfect little doggy paradise.

I am continually upgrading my own knowledge, building on a base of a Bachelors in Zoology and a Masters of Applied Science, I have completed Certificates in:

  • Pet First Aid/CPR

  • Pet Psychology

  • Dog Grooming

  • Pet Sitting

  • Pet Nutrition

  • Dog & Cat Behaviour Problems

  • Dog Training

  • Animal Behaviour

  • Puppy School

  • Dog Aggression.

I hope to continue to learn and grow, both as a business and a pet care provider, to ensure every pet has the very best experience possible, without losing the home-based, cage-free experience that the business was founded upon.

Fur-Mum Pet Care is a great option for many of Townsville’s spoiled furry and feathered family members. It is an even better option for those who need a bit more care than can be offered via mobile visits and may not thrive in the institutional-like environment of a boarding kennel or cattery.

We have experience with a wide-range of specialty care including mobility issues, administering medication and assisting with behavioural issues like anxiety and separation distress.

I find it extremely rewarding to help pets that need a bit of extra assistance and am happy to provide the extra services at no extra cost (within reason).

It’s hard to find someone who will look after your pet like you do, but Jen goes the extra yard to make sure your little fur ball is happy and comfortable when your away. It’s nice to have peace of mind knowing that your pets are in great hands.
